Course description

Throughout a PhD there are many opposing ideals, characters and values involved, that could easily lead to a conflict. There can be conflicts over ideas, values and emotions. We then have to negotiate to get to an agreement with other people. How does this work? How can you get the best out of this, or even more than you expected? You have to deal with expectations and various cultures; this can make diplomacy complex, but also very interesting! Dealing with conflicts in a positive and efficient way makes your work more effective and satisfying.

In this course, you will learn how to recognize, develop and use your conflict management and cross-cultural communication skills in an effective way. You will discover that many people have the same kind of conflicts… 

Working together with other PhD candidates in this group will give you the opportunity to share experiences, get feedback from each other and discuss options for dealing with your conflicts.
