Teacher training for PhDs

As a PhD student carrying out teaching or supervision duties may be part of your job description, or you may voluntarily decide to teach a class. This course aims at preparing your for the task of teaching. Divided in two entwined parts, the course focuses on the (educational) theory and soft-skills needed to teach or supervise effectively. The theoretical part will cover i.a.:
Teaching and supervising are life-long learning activities for the teachers and supervisors. This course provides a starting block by means of peer-to-peer coaching. This activity helps you reflect on your own teaching or supervising activities and those of your peers. By discussing ‘in classroom’ situations, the aims is learn from each others successes or problems.
The course uses Google Classroom as it’s main means of communication.
Time frame and planning
The theoretical part is given biannually, during period 1a and 2a, and consists of three morning meetings and one daylong event. For each meetings, you be required to prepare or do an assignment. During the event a final product will have to be presented to the participants of the event. Per semester six peer-to-peer sessions are organised for which you will have to sign up to three of them. For each of the session you attend, you will have to prepare or do an assignment. For this part, it is strongly recommended that you are teaching at the time of the peer-to-peer sessions.

To be able to start with this training it is required that you have English language skills at a sufficient level to present and carry out discussions with your peers. In order to effectively attend the peer-to-peer-coaching sessions, you will have to be assigned and participate in teaching duties. In order to complete the course:
