Courses

Dutch level 1 (CEFR A0-A2)

Course description

"It is real fun to find yourself trying to emulate sounds that come so naturally to the Dutch. That is a good ice breaker to make friends within the course. After realizing you can actually pronounce a decent “g” and understand advertisements and simple conversations around you, is like a whole new world opens up for you. It’s an enjoyable way to start integrating into the culture we have chosen to come and experience." - course participant, June 2014

The GSSE organizes Dutch tutorials on campus on a regular basis for foreign PhD students at our Faculty. This course offers an option which is convenient, affordable, and social (giving students from different institutes a chance to meet and interact). They are also open to post-docs if space is available.

This popular course is geared toward giving foreign PhD students a first experience with 'real' Dutch in a friendly setting, with a large percentage registering for Dutch level 2 afterwards.

The time commitment is 1h45 weekly, plus 2 to 4 hours homework per week. The course ends with an assessment. In order to get a certificate you should attend at least 75% of the meetings (but preferably all).

Classes are on Zernike campus after office hours and are only for PhD students and postdocs from this Faculty.
